Sports Performance Training for Teens

September 14 - OCtober 21 | Mon & Wed | 7:15 - 8:15 pm
6 Weeks. 2x/Week. Ages 12–17. All Sports Welcome.

Build A Better Athlete

Whether your athlete plays soccer, football, lacrosse, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, runs track, wrestles or just wants to become stronger and more athletic, our Sports Performance Training program is designed to help them build the foundation for better performance.

Over six weeks, athletes will work on strength, speed, agility, coordination, balance, movement technique, and overall athletic performance in a positive, encouraging environment.

They'll work hard. They'll learn how to move better. And they'll have some fun while they're doing it.

More Than A Workout

Teen athletes are still learning how to use their changing bodies.

That's why this program isn't about simply making kids tired or seeing how much weight they can lift.

Lauren will focus on technique first, teaching athletes the movement patterns and progressions that can help them become stronger, faster, more coordinated, and more confident in whatever sport they play.

Training may include:

  • Strength and functional movement
  • Speed and acceleration
  • Agility and change of direction
  • Balance and coordination
  • Athletic movement mechanics
  • Core strength and stability
  • Power and explosiveness
  • Conditioning
  • Proper movement technique and progressions

The goal is to build a well-rounded athlete, not specialize in one particular sport.

How the Program Works

6-Week Mini Program

Athletes will train up to twice per week for six weeks, allowing them to build on what they learn from one session to the next.

Progressive Training

Athletes won't be expected to walk in knowing how to lift or perform advanced movements. Lauren will teach proper technique first and gradually progress movements based on each athlete's ability.

Small-Group Environment

Athletes get the energy and fun of training alongside other teens while still receiving coaching, correction, and encouragement.

Meet Coach Lauren

Lauren’s journey into strength and conditioning began through her own experiences with injury and rehabilitation. After tearing her ACL in high school while doing gymnastics and later undergoing shoulder surgery, she developed a passion for helping athletes overcome challenges and return stronger.

She explored her interest in sports medicine through the Sports Medicine Program at TCHS and eventually transferred to West Chester University to pursue a degree in Exercise Science. She also completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania, where she worked with several Division I athletic teams.

Along the way, Lauren discovered CrossFit, which gave her the competitive outlet she had been searching for. Today, she competes, coaches at CrossFit Thunder Hill, and holds her CrossFit Level 1 certification.

Her experiences with injury and recovery have shaped her passion for helping athletes build confidence, overcome challenges, and become stronger both physically and mentally.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered.

What should athletes wear and bring?

Athletes should wear comfortable athletic clothing and supportive athletic shoes. Please bring:
- A water bottle
- Athletic shoes
- Any braces or supports normally used for training
- A willingness to work hard!

How much does it cost?

Athletes can choose between two class bundles depending on how often they would like to train:
6 classes — $150 — ideal for attending approximately once per week
12 classes — $300 — ideal for attending both weekly sessions

What happens if an athlete misses a class?

We understand that schedules get busy and occasionally an athlete may need to miss a session.

Because classes are purchased in bundles, athletes have more flexibility in choosing which days they attend. Those attending once a week are not locked into the same day every week, so if their schedule changes, they can attend the other weekly session when needed.

As with any training program, athletes will get the most benefit from attending consistently throughout the six weeks.

Is registration for the entire six weeks or can athletes drop in?

The program runs for six weeks, but athletes can choose how frequently they train by purchasing either a 6-class or 12-class bundle.

A 6-class bundle is a great option for athletes planning to attend about once per week or who need a little more flexibility in their schedule. The 12-class bundle allows athletes to attend both training days each week and get the full benefit of twice-weekly training.

Are they doing a CrossFit class?

No. The athletes will not be completing the gym's regular CrossFit Workout of the Day.

The program is being hosted at CrossFit Thunder Hill because the gym gives Lauren access to a wide variety of equipment and plenty of options for strength, speed, agility, and athletic performance training. The workouts themselves are specifically designed for the youth athletes participating in the Sports Performance Program.

Can parents stay and watch?

Yes. We have a small seating area with a few chairs and a couch for parents who would like to stay during class.

Some parents choose to watch, while others use the time to walk a few laps around the parking lot, get in a little movement of their own, or squeeze in an errand or two nearby.

Where is CrossFit Thunder Hill located?

We are located at 501 S. Third Street in Oxford, Pennsylvania.

Is strength and performance training safe for teenagers?

When youth training is properly supervised and designed around age-appropriate movements, technique, and gradual progression, strength and resistance training can be appropriate for adolescents.

This program emphasizes how an athlete moves before how much they can lift. Athletes will learn technique and movement progressions before additional resistance or difficulty is introduced.

Does my child need experience with strength training or CrossFit?

No. Beginners are welcome. Athletes will be coached from their current ability level, so prior CrossFit, weightlifting, or strength-training experience is not required.

Is this only for certain sports?

No. The program is intentionally designed for all sports.

Rather than teaching sport-specific skills such as shooting a basketball, swinging a bat, or kicking a soccer ball, we'll develop the athletic qualities that carry over into many sports: strength, speed, coordination, agility, balance, power, and movement quality.

How is this different from my child's regular sports practice?

Sports practice teaches athletes the skills and strategy of their particular sport.

Sports performance training works on the athlete underneath the sport.

We're developing fundamental physical qualities like strength, speed, agility, coordination, balance, and movement mechanics that can support performance across many different athletic activities.
